Summer Arts Camp Frequently Asked Questions

When will registration begin?

Member only online registration begins at noon on Monday, March 2. You may become a member when you register. Online registration for non-members begins April 1 at noon. As we are an independent non-profit and rely on donations and class registrations to operate, you do not need to be a city of Davis resident to enroll in Davis Arts Center’s camps.

What information do I need when I register?

In addition to your contact information, you will need to answer questions on if your camper has any medical or other issues that Davis Arts Center should know about and the names and phone numbers of up to 4 people (including you!) who can pick up your child from camp, an emergency contact person and phone number and if your camper can leave camp on their own. We will also ask you to electronically sign a waiver and agree to a code of conduct for your camper.

What is Early Drop Off?

Bring your camper early to accommodate your schedule. Drop off anytime between 8-9 am. There will be counselors to greet your child and art activities to get them started for the day.

What is Art Studio AM?

Art Studio AM takes place, Monday – Friday from 9 am-1 pm each week of the summer. During the day campers will build skills in drawing and painting, ceramics, and fiber arts in classes led by teaching artists. Camp counselors will facilitate each age groups’ rotations through the different studios, and ensure break and lunch times are fun as well as tailored to the age range of your camper. Different projects will be offered each week. Campers will be placed into groups depending on age.

What is Art Play PM?

Art Play PM takes place, Monday – Friday from 1-3 pm each week of the summer. Campers will participate in art, games, water play and fun in the DAC building and outside in the adjacent shaded areas.

What are Art Electives?

Art Electives will take place in the afternoon from 1-3 pm or 1-4 pm throughout the summer. Each elective is led by a teaching artist and is devoted to a specific art form. Most electives meet for one week, Monday-Friday but both Youth Theater and the Acme Theatre Camps are three weeks long, so check the dates of the electives you want to register for.

Can I Sign up for Art Elective or Art Play PM only?

Yes! You are welcome to sign up for just the afternoon, but you might miss out on the fun art in the morning.

Why can’t I register over the phone or in person at DAC?

We will be available to answer your questions but are unable to take registrations by phone or in person at this time.

What is the ratio of teachers to children?

There will be 3 adults/counselors for each group of up to 20 campers, these include teaching artists, camp counselors, and volunteers.

Will my child be sitting for an hour at a time?

Probably not, unless they are really focused on an art activity. Many art projects are done in parts and will be broken up over the time spent with the teaching artists.  In addition, counselors will provide breaks and fun time tailored to each age group.

Will there be outside play?

During Art Play PM, the campers will use the shaded outside stage and grass area for water play and recreation. We may venture into the park for more varied activities. If it is smokey or too hot, the campers will stay in the air-conditioned Arts Center.

Can my younger child be in the same age group as an older sibling?

Yes. If siblings or friends want to be together the older child can move to the younger group. However, please note that children will see each other as they pass from one activity to the other and will be able to wave or high five each other as they pass by.

Will lunch be provided?

Lunch will not be provided, please send your camper with snacks and lunch. Please be mindful that other campers may have allergies, please leave nut products at home.
