June is Music Month at Davis Arts Center!
As part of the June celebration of music in Davis, Davis Arts Center is proud to host a variety of musical events from Speak & Spell, our exhibit to the Davis Arts Center Poetry Series featuring poet and musician, Patrick Gizel.
Music is perhaps the most ubiquitous of all art forms,.. seemly omnipresent in nearly all our activities: from being entertained by your favorite band while driving to the sonic background drone encountered when shopping or eating at a restaurant. This June, music moves to center stage at Davis Arts Center. Not only with programming featuring music – Davis Arts Center is a venue for Make Music Day performances, The Classical Guitar Series Young Artists Showcase and A Celebration of the Summer Solstice- Drumming Circle Lead by Mamadou Traore, but also programming that highlights how music interacts and has impacted other art forms. The exhibition Speak & Spell – The Art of Repurposing, Circuit Bending and the Fashionably Retro explores among other things, sound, noise and time. For the literary arts, the Davis Arts Center Poetry Series features the poetry and music of founding member and former director of the Sacramento Poetry Center, Patrick Grizzell. We hope you join us, along with several other Davis organizations this month to pause for a moment, and recognize the role music plays.
