This lively and colorful exhibit will present close to 100 artworks by students at Peregrine School in Davis, two to twelve years of age. In response to a folk story by the Sufi poet Rumi – about an elephant that was described in a myriad of ways, depending on the observer – the children created their own visual interpretation of “what an elephant looks like.” The images will be presented in order of the artist’s age, creating a “developmental art show” that illustrates how children of different ages think and talk about their art.
A family-friendly opening reception on Friday, July 11, from 5 – 7 pm will include fun children’s art activities for visitor participation.
The exhibit was curated by Kristina Gilmore, parent and Curatorial Assistant at the Crocker Art Museum; Lisa Rico, grandparent and artist; and teachers at Peregrine School.
