Davis Arts Center is pleased to host members of Sierra Wax Artists (Sacramento chapter of International Encaustic Artists) in WAX ON, a group exhibit featuring the ancient process of working with bee’s wax and tree resin in a molten state. WAX ON will be on display from August 6 to September 5 in the Tsao Gallery. Please join us for an ArtAbout reception for the artists on Friday, August 8 from 7-9 pm.
This beautiful, translucent (and aromatic) medium dates back to first century Rome and is seeing a resurgence today in many fine art forms, including mixed media, sculpture, print-making and many other techniques. Watch this video featuring Sierra Wax Artist Linda Nunes to learn how the medium is heated, transferred to wood panels, and then sculptured, textured or combined with other materials to create unique works of great depth and complexity.
