September’s exhibition, vision & revision, features the photography of Julie Patterson. The Oxford Dictionary defines ‘vision’ as the state of being able to see as well as the experience of seeing something in a dream or trance. Patterson comments that perhaps our perception blends the definitions into a kind of unique hybrid vision that unconsciously revises the world we see. The Oxford Dictionary defines ‘revision’ as the act of revising, an adaptation, review or redrafting.
The photograph is a revision in itself and the first step in Patterson’s process. For her, the essential nature of the image directs the revision process. She writes, my work is to develop more and more subtle layers of attention as I work with all the layers that create a finished piece.
Julie holds a Bachelor of English Literature & Psychology from California State University, Sacramento as well as attending the Academy of Art, San Francisco. Her work has been critically recognized by the Mustard Festival, Long Beach Digital Arts and awarded “Best in Class” at both the Napa and Marin County Fairs. She has participated in numerous solo and group shows in Northern California as well as being held in the corporate collections of Kaiser Permanente and Warren Capital Corporation.
The Second Friday Reception is September 11, from 6 to 8pm. Julie will be present to answer questions and discuss her work.
