Trio Seven will perform its all-new transcription of Mussorgsky’s beloved piano work, Pictures at an Exhibition (1874). In it Mussorgsky imaginesa posthumous exhibition of his friend, artist Victor Hartmann, who died suddenly of an aneurysm at the age of 39. It is composed of ten pictures, representing paintings, sketches and architectural concepts by Hartmann, and four promenades, representing Mussorgsky’s moods as he strolls through the exhibit. This transcription for three extended seven-string guitars seeks to combine something of the fullness and power of the piano with the intimacy and raucous of the guitar. The concert program also includes popular movie themes and works by Debussy, Bach, Brahms, Gismonti, Grasso, Rachmaninov and selections of De Falla’s El Amor Brujo.
