THIS EVENT TAKES PLACE AT 7 PM ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21
Committed proponents of new music as well as the classics, the San Francisco Guitar Quartet (SFGQ), draws from a rich background of musical traditions including classical, contemporary, world and ethnic traditions, and improvisation. Its members – Ramon Fermin, Matthew Fish, Jon Mendle and Patrick O’Connell – have each distinguished themselves as recording artists and chamber musicians through national and international tours, CD releases, prize-winning performances and other achievements.
The concert will include works from the 19th century to the present day, including a quartet by Antoine L’Hoyer (1768-1852) that is one of the earliest guitar quartets ever written. The group will also present works featuring African and Brazilian influences, as well as contemporary music for the classical guitar quartet from Australia and the United States.
