12th Annual Celebration of the 7-String Guitar

July 7, 2018

The final guitar performance of the Series will be Matthew Grasso’s 12th Annual Celebration of the 7-String on July 7 at 7:07 pm.  It is a wonderful occasion for guitarists, guitar aficionados and music lovers in general to hear a variety of uncommon instruments, learn about their use and construction directly from performers, luthiers and music historians.

Our program this year features solo and ensemble transcriptions for the multi-string guitars. Harry Stoddard performs transcriptions of Bach and traditional music for the 7-string guitar. On the 11-string alto guitar, Sean O’Connor will play music originally written for three different members of the guitar family: the archlute, the baroque lute, and the 12-string harp guitar. Soprano Dr. Aya Ueda will perform works for two 7-string guitars and voice by Rachmanioff, Villa-Lobos, and Kōsaku Yamada. Guitar quintet Q7 will present groundbreaking arrangements of Russian composers. The program will end with a multi-string guitar septet of Haydn’s Farewell Symphony.
