The San Francisco Guitar Quartet performs at Davis Arts Center

Davis, CA – The Davis Arts Center is pleased to welcome back the San Francisco Guitar Quartet for an intimate concert in the Atrium on Friday, January 17 at 8 p.m. The San Francisco Guitar Quartet (SFGQ) plays both classical and improvisatory jazz music traditions. SFGQ will perform works by by Mark Knippel, Philip Houghton, Garry Eister, Sergio Assad, Astor Piazzolla, Paul Bergel, and Clarice Assad, as well as the world premiere of Garry Eister’s Quartet #2. Seating is limited and it is strongly recommended to purchase tickets in advance.

Since its inception in 1997, the San Francisco Guitar Quartet has become one of the most sought-after classical guitar ensembles performing today. Committed proponents of new music as well as the classics, SFGQ draws from a rich background of musical traditions including classical, world and ethnic traditions, and improvisation.

The members of SFGQ, Jon Mendle, Patrick O’Connell, Matthew Fish, and Roberto Granados, have each distinguished themselves as recording artists and chamber musicians through their national and international touring, CD releases, and such achievements as first prize in the 2012 Sierra Nevada Guitar Competition, First Prize in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s concerto competition, appearances on NPR’s “From the Top,” and performances at Carnegie Hall.
